For
this taste we went into groups and had to create a miniature film, which was
based on a discovery of some sort. In my
group there was Sabrina Yaaqub, Cynthia Ankunda and I. As a group we decided
that our storyline was going to be based on discovering a dead body. The
narrative was going to be a girl coming home to discovery that someone she new
had just killed some one. This Storyline then changed to a continuation of the
miniature film that we did for the chase assignment. The narrative had changed
to the gothic girl starting to gain a conscience on what she had just done and
her being haunted by the girl she killed which then resorted in her own death
because she could take the guilt anymore and her body being discovered. Our
storyline did change quit a bit but not so much.
In
the group we all had our individual roles in the production process,
contributions if you will. Sabrina played the role of the camera lady and
Cynthia played the role of the gothic girl. How I contributed to this
production is that I played the ghost of the girl she killed. I played this
role simply because I was the girl that was killed in the chase assignment so
this made sense.
There
were a few things that were trying to be achieved in the outcome of the
production. One thing that was trying to
be achieved is creating a synthetic emotion response in the audience by using
close up, to show the gothic girls emotion and regret of what she had done. But
also to show how she was haunted and traumatised by the thought of what she had
done. One last thing that we were trying to achieve through the production was
for audience to get a clear understanding of the discovery aspect of the film,
which is why we emphasised on the dead body medium shot and the close up of the
person who found the body. We wanted to highlight and show that this is what
was discovered.
There
were a few strength and weaknesses that were explored in the production.
At
the start of the production we had an original narrative of a girl coming home
to find someone she knows, had just murdered someone. However this storyline
had to be changed, due to the fact when we filmed this short film the outcome
wasn’t very good. Because the footage that we shoot was simply too dark so we
couldn’t see the narrative. After this discovery we decided to film this again,
however after a second attempt this still didn’t come out right, the footage
was again to dark. We had some clear footage but not enough for the narrative
to make sense. So this is when we decided to film in college instead of outside
of college. So that we could film then after edit. In addition this was a
weakness of our production.
Apart
form that minor weakness everything went pretty up hill from there. We had a lot
of strength after that; one of our strength was the variety of different camera
shots we got. We got a mixture of close, long and medium shots. I think this
was strength because we got to truly capture the narrative of the film.
Another
strength that we had as a group was that we were able to shoot our footage on
time even despite all our little mishaps. We managed to film quickly and efficiently.
Another
strength that I think we had as a group is that we worked well together if
there were any issues we tackled it as a group, if one had an idea we would all
listen and make each other feel like they had a say in things such as the
narrative and shots used.
