List three devices on which
television can be watched and listened.
v Television
set
v Computer
v Laptop
v Mobile
phone
v Tablet
Think about devices you own or watch which show
television programmes.
Sound quality
Television set: when watching a television
program I have found that watching it on a television set, that the quality is
best depending on the type of television set. I found that its best to watch
television shows on HD television shows. Simply best the sound is very clear
and louder so has a bigger effect on me and my emotional response to the
television show.
Another device that I own that I think is good
in terms of quality when watching a television show is my laptop. The quality
on this device is good as you can hear what you are watching clearly and loud.
Even though I don’t own any devices that I
don’t think have bad quality. I do own devices that are better quality than
other. The device that I won which has good quality but as well as other devices
I own is my previous mobile phone. The quality of this device wasn’t good
because it was hard to hear therefore this didn’t help to portray the mood and
meaning of the television show I was watching.
Capability for surround sound and panning
The
best device that I own that is good when watching television shows, in
relations to he capability for surround sound and panning, is again my television.
Seeing that the television set has a built in stereo the sound projects
throughout the room, meaning that the television show that you are watching has
a greater effect on you. Due to the surround sound because it portrays the mood
and meaning in a greater sense.
The
worst device that I own in relations to the capability for surround sound and
panning is, my mobile phone. This actually depends on the headphones as well as
the phone device. If the headphones have poor quality then the sound wont
project well, meaning the mood and meaning of the television show wont is good
at all.
Summarising possible
effects of poor quality sound and panning
There
are a broad range of effects that can demine the mood and meaning of a moving
image production due to the poor quality of sound. One effect that this could
have is that the audience wouldn’t be able to hear the dialogue being said by
the characters. Therefore you might not get an understanding of the characters
relationship with one another, so you would have a misunderstanding of the plot
and narrative of the moving image production.
Another
effect is that if the quality of the moving image production was at a poor
standard, this could ruin your emotional response to the moving image. For
example if there was a tragic scene between characters but you couldn’t hear
the sound, then this would resort in us as the audience not having a emotional
response in this sense sadness. In other words the sound quality could ruin the
mood atmosphere.
Also
if the sound quality of a moving image production was very poor, you could lose
possible interest in what you’re watching. Due to the fact that you aren’t
getting the full and intended effect, so wouldn’t find the moving image
production enjoyable or amusing. Also because you wouldn’t have an
understanding of the plot due to muffled dialogue.
Not
only can poor sound ruin the audience enjoyment but also poor panning in sound
effects. This could also have a huge effect on the viewers experience because
this can resort in the atmosphere being less dramatic and effective due to the
fact that the music isn’t surrounding the listener. Furthermore when you are
watching a moving image production and thee panning sound effects are at a good
quality standard it makes you as the viewer feel apart of what you are viewing
but also makes it feel more realistic and makes the whole viewing experience
real and enjoyable.
3D
The
name of this programme is the BBC News at ten on channel BBC One. The programme
was broadcasted on the 17th October 2013 at 10pm on a Thursday. I
the duration of the programme is 30 minutes and the category that this
programme is based on am news. The reason why I picked this particular
television programme is due to the fact that it involves all the aspects that I
will be looking at and analysing. So I thought that it would be useful and
easier in these terms.
One
of the aspects that I will be looking at is ‘Studio audio recording’. For this television programme this is
programme the majority of the programme is film inside a studio. This aspect
was used in this programme because it creates and portrays more of a
professional and serious mood to the audience. This aspect was used to tell us
as the audience that this programme will focus on some serious and possible
political issues and that it won’t be focused on their environment but on more
of what they will be talking about and discussing. By creating solemn and
sensible aspects without any visual distractions. In addition to also make sure
they get the best possible sound quality of recording in front of the audience.
Location audio recording:
This
programme uses also this aspect; this is used when one of the television
presenters visits a place that has been affected by the housing rising issue. I
think this method was used to show the audience how serious the issue is, but
also to show the presenter more in touched with the issue. But also for the
audience to see whom the issue is actually affecting.
Interviews: This is used on the
programme when they are interviewing a person from the audience (Abu Suhel) who
now lives in the Tower hamlets resident, he is interviewed about how he has
been affected by the political issue of housing. He was a victim of this when
him and his family was forced to move out by their landlord. This aspect was
used to again create a serious mood to the audience. But also to show us the
audience how these have had an affect on a person’s life and add meaning to
this part of the programme for the audience. In addition this aspect is used to
find out more information from the person.
Voiceover: this aspect is used to
give the audience more information on the political issue that they are looking
at. In the voiceover it discusses a close and mixed community that hade the
highest ratio of public housing in the London however with the rent private
sector raising, there has been a decline in affordable hosing for the public
that it has hit a crisis. He also goes on to saying that the government fears
that this issue could get worse for the future so are thinking about moving up
to 500 houses out of London. I think that this method was used to give the
audience more information but also to create a more personal mood. When I say
this I mean in the terms to make what the voiceover is saying more directed at
us and inform us that this could have a effect on us too.
The
name of the programme that I will be looking at for this point is, Vampire Diaries.
This was broadcasted on the CW channel. This programme was aired on September
10th 2009. I picked this television programme simply because it
gives a good example of the point below.
A moving sound source: This point is used at the
beginning of the clip, its used in this clip when recording the audio in the
car with dialogue used between a couple. The reason why this could potentially
be used is to create atmosphere and set the scene in the car. But also convey
the meaning of the scene to the audience, for example to give them an
understanding of the narrative.
