Interview Techniques - Morvelisa Roberts

For this interview task I interviewed was Zuniera, I interviewed her on the issue of sexism.  I think there were a variety of things that went well in the interview and a few things that I think need to be approved upon for future interviews.  One of the things that I think went well in the interview was the beginning when I introduced myself to the interviewee, and telling the interviewing the topic that is about to be discussed. I think this went well because this made the interviewee feel more comfortable and relax in other words it took the pressure of. 

Another thing that I think went well was letting my interviewee see the questions before hand, because it allowed my interviewee to be prepared for the questions being asked, and so she had more to say in the interview.  Another thing that I believe went well in the interview was my suggestive questions, this was pointed out by a fellow colleague which said that this was good because it was getting my interviewee to say more. Though a number of things went well in ther interview their were things that I think needed to be improved, one of those things was the framing and shot, the shot used was a medium shot I think if I used a close up it would be better because it would make the interview appear more personal. Another thing which I think could have been improved was the volume of my voice, in the interview my voice was very low making it hard for the camera to pick up on what I am saying so next time I will need to be louder to show confidence. 

Brainstorm Structure for Documentary

The documentary has to last duration of 10-15mins and within this time frame, I will need to have a beginning, middle and end. So in other words my documentary will have to have a set up to the issue and topic of the documentary, a development looking further into the issue, looking at people possible being affecting and a resolution concluding my issue or my point. 

In the beginning of the documentary I want to start with text, which is about my issue sexism, I want the text to involve facts ad statistic. Following the text I want to have a quote which is ‘Beneath the make up and behind the smile, I am just a girl who wishes for the world. -Marilyn Monroe’ I picked this quote because I think it creates an emotive feel which is something I want my documentary to have. When the quote appears on screen I want there to be music playing in the background, perhaps soft piano instrumentals to support the emotive feel I am going for. Following this I want there to be images of men and women, to look at how the media perceive the genders. After I want a question to appear on the screen which will be ‘what has society told you about yourself? Or what struggles do you think women face? Then I want to have answers from three different people then another question will appear on screen which will be ‘How do men today due to society influences feel about women? Again I want there to be three different answers. 

In the middle part of the documentary I want to look at how the media has perceived the genders, I will be looking at Disney’s perception. I think that Disney plays a vital role; since we are young we grow up watching Disney film and taking on board how men and women are seen in their films. Females are seen as beautiful and flawless e.g. beauty and the beast, Cinderella. So I will be taking a look at that aspect I will have a heading followed by images of Disney role models accompanied with a voiceover. Which will discuss how Disney has influenced us.  I will then look at other aspects within the media that has influenced us. I will then have more interviewees from a different range of people, getting their opinion on the topic and what has influenced them as an individual.

In the end of the documentary I will have another heading saying ‘ where do we go from here? Can we change as a society?’ then a voiceover saying a few bits, to conclude.
