WORKSHOP : Dubbing 2 : Phone call
For this task i was developing my dubbing and postproduction editing skills to match professional type standards. i had to recreate a phone conversation from a moving image sequence. the workshop combined dubbing dialogue, creating voiceover and editing sound realistically to add to the mood and meaning of the moving image sequence. for this task we could work either in a pair or choose to work individually, i worked Sabrina Yaaqub
The film sequence that i choose was scream, i choose this film sequence because i thunked the creativity of it, and i thought i could play around with the voice. The next step was that i had to create a script for the scene to help us record effectively. For this someone had to play the main character however you can alter the pitch of the voice to add to the mood and meaning of the film sequence. We had to at least use a minute of the film sequence that included the phone call conversation element. We then had to practice the dialogue focusing on the content, style and timing of the words, this would then help us to improve the quality of the dubbing element of the scene and make sure that the recording conveyed the mood and meaning to the audience. Once we had practiced we then had to record the dialogue in the radio studio or either in another appropriate space trying to match the recording as closely to the original as possible. We choose to record in the radio studio as it is sound proof so we wouldn't have any background noises from outside disturbing our recording. we had the choice of recording live, with the video playing back as you record or through practice and just copying what you heard. We decided to have the video playing back to us why we recorded so that we could match the original sequence as much as possible.
Once we did the production process we then had to edit our recording, paying attention specifically on the sound quality of the dialogue that is diegectically heard through a phone receiver. To make is realistic i choose to move these parts of the dialogue to a separate track. the software that i was using to edit the recording is Reaper, we also had to ass the Apple Au Bandpass effect to the track. one of the things that was faced in reaper was i attempted to change the pitch of my partners voice, i wanted to make the voice deeper. So that the voice could convey the right mood which was scary and sense at times, but also the meaning. i made the voice deeper by changing the pitch down. i did this too add to the spooky mood and the meaning of the film sequence. Another technique that we had to do was adding a phone call effect. we had to click on the effects bottom at the side of the track and click on AUbandpass to make the phone call effect this added the bandpass filter to the track. Once i finished editing i had to render the completed project to a wav.
The film sequence that we picked was a scene from scream, we both decided on this one because we liked how we could play around with the voices

the timing of the dubbing voices was great it was in synch with the voice on the other end of the line, and was in synch with the person lips. so it created the mood that we were really on a phone having a discussion which is what we were trying to achieve.
Improvements
There weren't any improvements that we felt needed to be taken into consideration. even when editing there wasn't anything i felt that i needed to loop. i feel as if the voice was synchronous to the person in the moving image sequence, the dubbing went well at some times it was hard to match the voice and person speaking together but i solved that little problem by speeding up or down the voice. All this added to the mood and meaning of the film sequence. So their wasn't anything that was needed to be improved on in my opinion.
