Workshop: Music GarageBand

For this task we had to find a television show or film video clip that had to at least is a minimum of 1 minute. We had to pick a film clip that did not already have music from the Art-Media drive. We had to compose a suitable and appropriate original non-diegetic music for my chosen film sequence using the software Gargeband to add mood and meaning to my chosen sequence. I had to record my soundtrack using the instruments in Garageband; the music didn’t need to be complicated as this was my first time using this software. But the music did need to help create a mood for the film sequence for the viewer to go with the narrative, characters and genre of the film sequence. We then had to edit and combined my recording with the film sequence in Premiere and export as a mov. And then lastly we had to upload the sequence to a blog post titled workshop ‘original music 1’.
Once I got onto Garageband I had to turn off the metronome in the control tab, I then had to turn on the musical typing in the window tab to play the notes. I then had to change software instruments in the right pan, to find music to fit my film sequence.

The film sequence that I picked was from the film ‘Beastly’ I picked the scene were the two-protagonist talk face to face with each other for the first time. And the female protagonist sees who she is living with for the first time. I picked this scene because I thought that I would be able to come up with an appropriate music. It seemed like a simple yet nice scene to add mood to be composing the right music.
The software instruments that I picked for my film sequence is piano, I picked this instrument because I felt as if this could create a sweet and innocent mood for the sequence.  I think the music that I picked fitted nicely with the scene, I felt that it conveyed a innocent feel to the scene and portrayed the meaning nicely as well. The timing of the music that i created on garageband was also good in came in at the right moments and didn't clash with the words being said in the clip therefore added to the mood of the scene.
Improvements
How I would improve on this task is that I would perhaps give myself more time to compose, music that was better fitted for the film sequence. I spent the majority of the time trying to pick a film sequence that I could compose music for, and ended up finding one but not having enough time to think carefully about the music that would portray the mood and meaning of the film clip. Another thing that I think I could improve upon is maybe by adding more layers to the music so that the music that I composed had more rhythm therefore could have help to convey the mood and meaning of the film sequence.
