OMARS COMING YO

                         Workshop

For the workshop the aim of the this lesson was too watch a clip, and then pick one that we would want to do a voice over too. the clip that i picked was 'Omars coming yo' I picked this particular clip simply because straight away I had an idea of what I would want to write for the script and the type of storyline that could go along with the clip. After me and my partner had watched and picked a clip, we then had to write the script. In the group we decided that i would write the script for the clip and my partner would contribute by being the voice over, we decided upon this because the I'm better at coming up with a script and storyline and the fact that the lead of the clip was a male so it made sense that he was the voice over. In addition the song which I decide on for the clip is by the artist DMX, I decided on this song simply because it sets the scene of the clip.

                                                               Script

                           OMARS COMING YO

The storyline behind the script is a guy, who is telling a story about a guy he grew up with as a child. a guy he use to call his best friend and could trust but along the way his best friend mixed up with the wrong crowd and made some hasty and terrible decision. So he called the police on his friend because he didn't want him getting into any more bad things and wanted him to stop his way of life, once his best friend got out of jail, he became worst and hunted down him down and all those he cares about. The both of them made a deal that the guy has to give the best friends supplies but if at any time he decides he doesn't want to give him any more supplies he will murder him and all that he cares about.

That’s Omar; we’ve known each other since kids. He uses to be the coolest person I knew. He was my best friend.

But everything changed, the day his old man died, he mixed with the wrong crowd. We stopped talking the day he met, Reece the guy with no soul, he's a seriously messed up guy.

I try to warn Omar about Reece but the thing is once you’re in Reece pack, YOU AINT GETTING OUT.

I watched the colour in Omar’s eyes turn to pure darkness, the day he ran over a 6 year old leaving her to die. Now I’m his enemy the day I called the cops on him

Now He comes round here waiting for me, waiting to turn the light out in my eyes.

Personally I aint scared, I would confront him, watch him turn a gun on the guy he use to call his best friend. But I got to protect my own, SO WE GIVE HIM SOME SUPPLIES, SO MY PEOPLE CAN LIVE TO SEE ANOTHER DAY. With Omar and Reece walking the street aint nobody safe.

HE AINT GONNA STOP UNTIL SOME ONE PUTS THEM DOWN, THAT SOME ONES GONNA BE ME.

SOUNDTRACK- DMX

once we had decided on what clip we wanted to narrator or do a voice over for, and once we picked the storyline and the script was all written up then next stage of the process was to start recording. Once we finished recording the next stage was for me to start editing the piece that we recorded and fit the voice into the film clip. When editing the recordings I used Premier I picked this because I know my way around this software but also because its the best software to edit videos to achieve the best outcome. I used a variety of techniques when editing the recordings, once I import the recordings onto reaper listening back I could hear some mistakes such as mis-said words and some stuttering. I had to use the cut tool to cut these things out so that the words, sentence and voice over was said more smoothly therefore have a bigger impact and effect on the audience. Also when listening back to the recordings I notice some parts of the script didn't match up to the scenes so I decided to get rid of some of the sentences to give more of a suspense to the clip and make the words more relatable to what's happening in the clips. Once I had cut out pieces that didn't quit fit, I felt as if the voice in the recording needed to be a bit deeper to convey the character's emotion, which was sadnesses but also feeling betrayed, which was achieved once I deepened the voice to do this i had to use the audio effect and add a bass effect to the voice creating a deeper voice. In addition once I edited the voice by cutting things out and adding effects, the net thing to do was fit the recordings in the right place so that the voice over made sense and related to what was happening in the scene. Furthermore the final stage of the process was to add music, I decided to add music to the clip because I thought that it would set the scene more and have a greater effect on the audience. the music I choose was 'DMX in da hood'  I picked this song because it went perfectly with the clip, due to where the place in the clip was set and what was going on in the clip as well. for some parts of the clip I had to lower the volume of the music down so that the recording was heard clearly by the audience to give them an understanding of the storyline that was set.

The voice over that was done for the clip that my partner and i choose 'Omar's coming yo', was very effective in my opinion. I think that the voice over related to the clip and conveyed the storyline to the audience. I made sure that what was in the script had relations to the clip, so that the voice over would seem like a natural part of the clip. When I asked a person from the audience to listen to clip, they told me that they thought that the music chosen and voice-over was a part of the clip, which is what I intended on they also thought that it made them want to watch the actual film, due to the voice over and music that conveyed the story of the clip. Furthermore the person from the audience found it very effective they liked the music chosen because they felt it went well with the clip itself, and also set the scene and atmosphere of the clip, which was very rough and gangster like  And the spoken words used in the voice over told them a story of the character. In addition I think that the characters perspective went well, instead of doing the voice over to the perspective of the character in the clip but the perspective of someone else in the background of the clip. I think this was effective because its something the audience would expect, but also because it makes you as the audience want to know about the person telling the story or being the voice over and their relations to the main character.

In addition in relations to the timing i think the voiceover came in at the right time, conveying the right mood and meaning of the film sequence. also the timing of the music was good as well it added to the atmosphere and mood i was trying to pot ray to the audience.

  1. Very thorough evaluation on practical exercise. Next time , we will be adding more precise analysis of mood and meaning and how these are affected by changes in elements of sound.
